The Lekki Free Zone would provide a place with a "Global gateway to the regional and international markets."
In 2004, the Lagos State government initiated the Lekki Free Zone with a vision to fully utilize the investment and tourism potential of Lagos.
In a bid to achieve this, the Lagos State government initiated " The Lekki Worldwide Investments." Lekki Worldwide Investment was initiated to:
• Promote and manage the development of Lekki
• Anchoring the private/public partnerships strategy
• Offers a quick, simple and effective registration procedure with One-Stop-Shop service center to provide all necessary assistance to investors, for Establishment, Registration, Licensing, and Operation in Lekki
While designing the master plan in Lekki, the following options were considered:
•Establishment of
-Medium industry
-Warehousing
-Export processing
-Light industry
•Option two made more provision for Residential Use
•The penultimate option considered Self Contained Residential Communities
• Finally, A more balanced development
Therefore, the city has been divided into
1. Residential Land
Total Area: 2,266 Hectares
Location: South East of the Free Zone
The Petrochemical industries have been allocated approximately 10% of the Lekki Land in the South East of the Free Zone. The land offers use for Oil & Gas, Methanol and Tank Farms. Nearby is a land allocated for a Seaport along the Atlantic covering an area of 831 Hectares
